Attitudes and Behavior in Psychology - Thesis Example   Behavioral – which deals with action towards the attitude object. This is the execution of the attitude; the means through which a third party may administer or observe what the reaction has been. It is imperative to discuss the reaction component differently, because not all initial assumptions about attitude may yield the same result. (c) Cognitive – where beliefs about the attitude object are ascertained. Any prior experiences or learned behavior in the same context is likely to influence the process of attitude formation. These beliefs are not only crucial in the context of the issue at hand, but they also become the basis and foundations for future attitude formulations. Attitudes show their effect in various ways. There are circumstances wherein a person may feel positively or negatively about a subject. At the same time, states of ‘ambivalence’ may enable a person to maintain both views simultaneously. Additional concepts in social attitude formation are also integral to the lucid understanding of the said concept. One of these involves the theory of ‘cognitive dissonance’. â€Å"It is a state that presents a state of opposition between cognitions† (Wikipedia). The primary belief that is purported by this school of thought is that conflicting ideation, emotions, and conditions force the human being to seek a condition of equilibrium, and in a way speeds up the decision making process as far as concluding upon a certain attitude is concerned. These conflicts, therefore, ironically form the way towards conflict resolution once the mind has decided upon which stance to maintain.

Self-Portraits. Journal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Self-Portraits. Journal - Essay Example Additionally, I do not need to be responsible to anyone or share my practice with anyone; I do not need to dress up, put on make-up, I just need to capture the uniqueness and individuality of me. I choose to do a self-portrait so that I can capture and paint my subject matter as best as I can and as no one else as ever done before. Painting a self-portrait helps me in expressing certain aspects of myself and identities, far beyond the surface of physical appearance. 2. Describe â€Å"your† artistic choices in composition: use of color, space, etc. I consider color to be the most ungovernable and essential element in painting, therefore, when choosing the under painting, the first thing I usually do before I start painting, I am always weary of the color that I will use. I prefer creating a gray scale using Raw Sienna starting at white and mixing a small amount of the preferred color into white; this creates various tones of color. Using burnt amber and ultramarine blue, I mix the black color. Using twelve square scale gives me enough values that I use in painting the self-portrait (Bartel, 2010). As noted earlier, I prefer raw sienna; this is because, it helps in setting charcoal such that, it acts as highlight, which allows for the under painting to be visible through the final paints layer surface; and also, it does not smear into my painting. The colors I use are more affluent and brush strokes are more prominent In order to portray illusionistic form, I borrow the smooth, fine technique utilized by Rembrandt in his paintings (Bruyn, Wetering, & Rijn, 2005). In some areas of my self-portrait where I have used paint with tactile quality, I employ the technique of rough treatment of highly multicolored paint surfaces so as to allow for the portrayal of illusionist form (Albert, 2003). In order to suggest space, I again borrow a technique of leaving large white spaces employed not only by Rembrandt, but by Titian, as well. In addition, I also use of intr icate webs of line in order to get an effect of rich dark tones (Bruyn et al., 2005). Primarily, I am able to create dramatic effects by using shadow and strong contrasts of light, which is an emulation of Rubens’ baroque style. Having read, seen and become familiar some of Venetian art, my use of brushwork is more expressive; and I have developed a tendency of putting figures in parallel to the picture plane. 3. Explain what the portrait represents about â€Å"you† (as the artist.) This self-portrait depicts or represents a happier, although it looks a bit serious, the smile on my face, the look in my eyes, and the grim in my face shows a comfortable, happy, and free soul. The most important thing to note about this portrait is that, it is a unique representation of the real me; I have not in any way attempted to conceal the imperfections on my face, therefore, it leaves very little to be imagined. Apart from accurately representing the physical and emotional uniquene ss of my face, this self-portrait also invites the spectators to study and analyze the techniques I use. For instance, on close inspection of this portrait, anyone familiar with Rembrandt’s work will notice that, my face emerges from the movement of the brush and that my hair is as a result of carefully measured work. 4. Explain â€Å"your† choices of subject with regard to at least three other specific pieces

Marketing Plan Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 2

Marketing Plan - Essay Example This is a functional drink and can be made available in different flavors to suit different tastes. With the mission to reach the product to the vast majority of the people, it has been decided to undertake a marketing plan which includes stating the marketing objectives, the research to forecast the demand and then the marketing strategy. To determine the demand that could be generated for this new product, it is considered necessary to conduct a survey. To conduct the survey market segmentation is necessary so that the target market is studied rather than the whole market. Since this is a health drink and that too a milk product, focus would be on the children between 6 and 18 years and the women. The segmentation would further be based on psychographic details like lifestyle and social demographics like the income level. Thus to conduct the survey questionnaires have been designed (Appendix A). These questionnaires would be sent out via emails to housewives. The addresses would be procured from the local clubs and women’s organizations. Questionnaires would also be sent to the local clubs and organizations where a large number of women are employed. The marketing mix of any product would include the right product at the right time in the right place with the right sales and promotion strategy and at the right price. To have competitive positioning, these are the four P’s (Product, Price, Place and Promotion) very essential for marketing any product. To ensure good sales of our product and services, it is essential to understand the product, its need and importance, the price should be reasonable, if necessary dual pricing, the product should be easily available hence distribution has to be right and finally the right awareness of the product. The promotional strategies have to be taken into account depending on competitive factors. The product is new in the market with a focus on health and targeted at children and the women and hence success is

The Good Teachers Essay Example for Free

The Good Teachers Essay The desire to throw away youth and to grow up in evident also in ‘The Good Teachers’ as the speaker reveals a list of things she used to do as a child in order to make herself appear older and more mature, ‘You roll the waistband/ of your skirt over and over’, the repetition of the latter phrase demonstrating the action itself, ‘all leg, all/ dumb insolence, smoke-rings.’ Through the continued use of the pronoun, ‘you’, we, as the reader can share in Duffy’s adolescent experience as they are actions universal to all teenagers. Both poems deal with the positive aspects of adolescent experiences, but also with the negative ones as well; in ‘Lanarkshire Girls’ the experience begins uneasy and unpleasant as the speakers recalls how ‘Summer annoyed us†¦ Like a boy with a stick through railings’. This simile is very sensory as it strikes an image in the readers’ head of a boy dragging a stick across railings and the sound it makes is prominent. The bus is trying to exit the rural country as the nature is trying to stop it, making the journey initially difficult, ‘We bent whole treetops/ squeezing through as they rained down twigs.’ This symbolises the transition from adolescence into adulthood and how the girls are struggling to make it. However, when they finally make it out of the country, the tone of the poem changes from annoyance and struggling, to admiration for the city and excitement to be in a new stage of their life and for their new found sense of fre edom. The same is true for the speaker in ‘The Good Teachers’ as Duffy uses the metaphor of ‘a wall you climb’ to describe the transition from adolescent into adulthood. Even in the most positive point of the poem where she expresses her passion and love for both her English teacher and the subject itself is tainted. Her adoration is evident through the repetition of, ‘so much’ and through her actions such as remembering ‘The River’s Tale by Rudyard Kipling by heart’ and by ‘making a poem for’ her teacher. The speaker suggests that even this adolescent experience was tainted as her teacher who she admired is not perfect and her ‘cruel blue’ eye demonstrates this. This symbolises how no adolescent experience is perfect. Both poems end on very different tones and therefore have different outlooks on adolescent experiences. ‘Lanarkshire Girls’ ends with a feeling of excitement as the bus, ‘spilled’ the girls out dreaming themselves up. Whereas, ‘The Good Teachers’ ends on a tone of regret as the speakers finds truth in what her teachers told her that, ‘you’ll be sorry one day’ for not working hard enough and for racing to throw away their childhoods.
